Gary Truman

I have been a management-side employment lawyer for 28 years. Since 2010, I have been a sole practitioner, a one-man shop. When clients call, they get me – not an associate or paralegal. Every client gets my full attention.

For 18 years I represented clients in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and in arbitration and mediation proceedings. Since 2010, however, my practice has been devoted to preventive law. I help employers reduce the risk of

litigation and improve employee relations through increased compliance with employment laws and regulations. I also advise clients on hiring and firing issues and help them create effective and practical workplace policies.

After finishing law school I began working at Bradley, Campbell, Carney & Madsen, P.C., in Golden, where I spent five years working with – and learning from – some outstanding attorneys. My practice focused on management-side employment law and civil litigation. I advised and represented employers large and small.

In 1998, I accepted a job as an in-house attorney with Insurance Specialists, Inc., and was later promoted to General Counsel. The company sold its products in 46 states. Among other duties, I advised our human resources manager on employment law issues, assisted with negotiating and drafting contracts, helped keep the company in compliance with insurance regulations in various states, and managed the company’s litigation nationwide.

From 2002 through 2010, I was Special Counsel with Ruegsegger, Simons, Smith & Stern, P.C., in Denver, where I continued practicing employment law and civil litigation. My litigation practice included employment discrimination, insurance subrogation, and collection matters.
